Script Reader, Story Analyst, and Coverage Writer, a fan of movies and television
Screenreader’s Creed
The Screenreader’s Creed:
I understand that story editors, development executives, and producers are juggling an unusual and wide array of responsibilities. I will respect this process by not wasting anyone’s time.
I will always respect the producer’s time and substantial contribution to the creative process.
I will always submit quality coverage to the best of my ability and in a timely manner.
I will provide coverage that includes worthwhile suggestions and is never snarky, nasty, degrading, and/or disrespectful. To do so is a reflection on me and not the script being covered.
I acknowledge the Screenreader is routinely entrusted with privileged material and will always maintain the highest level of professional confidentiality.
I further acknowledge the Screenreader is often privy to information related to other elements attached to a project, including actors, directors, executives, etc., and will always maintain the highest level of professional confidentiality.
Whenever working as a consultant, I vow to support the writer’s efforts by presenting the writer’s vision to the world in the best possible light while remaining honest and acting with integrity.
As a Screenreader, I will elevate my role in the creative process to the best of my ability by enacting these principles whether I am working with producers, agencies, studios, directors, actors, or directly with writers.
I am a champion for writers.
I am a resource for producers.
I am a Screenreader.
I acknowledge that script to screen is a collaborative process, and the Screenreader plays an integral role.
I am a reader. I am part of the development process. My primary goal is to advance the project, not my career.
I understand that script coverage may have a major impact on a writer’s career, and I will accept the responsibility of writing coverage as if the writer’s success is a reflection of my own merits.
I will always respect the writer, regardless of the individual merits of a particular script.
I acknowledge that producers depend on the skills, time, and insight that the screenreader provides, and I will take that role seriously.
I understand that story editors, development executives, and producers are juggling an unusual and wide array of responsibilities. I will respect this process by not wasting anyone’s time.
I will always respect the producer’s time and substantial contribution to the creative process.
